Russia likely used a North
Korean ballistic missile in its deadly July 30 strike on Kryvyi Rih,
Reuters reported,
citing sources.
If confirmed, it would be the first time Moscow used NK missiles
in nearly a year.
“Russia has launched North Korean missiles at Ukrainian
targets before, but their deployment after a lengthy gap points to a fresh stock of weapons that
Moscow can draw on as it intensifies missile attacks, the sources added,” the
report said.
The unnamed source said Ukraine last officially confirmed
Russia’s use of a North Korean missile on Aug. 8, 2025.
Reuters noted that Russia began using North Korean
short-range ballistic missiles, the KN-23 and KN-24, in strikes on Ukraine in
late 2023. North Korea remains a close ally of Russia in the war against
Ukraine and has provided Moscow with thousands of military personnel and
millions of artillery rounds.
Yurii Ihnat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said
Russia may have used a KN-23 on July 30. He said the missile had not appeared
in Air Force reports for some time, “but today it reappeared.”
