SK Telecom is teaming up with Soonchunhyang University to roll out its proprietary artificial intelligence education solution, “AI Picture Diary,” across school classrooms. The system uses AI to turn students’ written diary entries into images and audio, while teachers manage lessons through a dedicated dashboard. The two institutions say the goal is to narrow the AI education gap caused by regional and resource disparities.

SK Telecom announced on the 3rd that it will deploy AI Picture Diary as part of the Ministry of Education’s “2026 Digital Saessak” program, which it operates jointly with Soonchunhyang University. Digital Saessak is a national AI and software education initiative led by South Korea’s Ministry of Education and administered by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. Soonchunhyang University has been selected as the lead institution for two consecutive years, with SK Telecom joining this year as a participating partner.

Since May, the two organizations have been running AI and software education programs for roughly 4,200 elementary, middle, and high school students across South Korea’s Gangwon and Chungcheong regions. The curriculum covers computational thinking and coding fundamentals, as well as cutting-edge topics such as generative AI, autonomous driving, and physical AI.

AI Picture Diary is designed to support reading, writing, and creative expression for early elementary students and those in special education. When a student writes about their day or thoughts, the generative AI analyzes the text and structures it into four scenes, automatically generating matching images and voice narration for each one.

Students can then edit the AI-generated scene titles, descriptions, and character dialogue, or regenerate the images entirely. By watching their own sentences come to life as pictures and stories—and then revising the output—students naturally practice expressing ideas in complete sentences and building narrative flow. Rather than simply receiving a finished AI product, students are encouraged to expand their writing into images and audio, iterating on their work to strengthen literacy and communication skills.

Teacher-facing tools are also included. Through a dedicated dashboard, teachers can monitor individual student participation, track diary completion status, and review assignment submissions, allowing them to tailor instruction to each student’s progress. To bridge digital and hands-on learning, the two institutions have also developed a companion workbook. Students first sketch out their diary topics and scenes on paper, then bring them to life with AI Picture Diary, experiencing a blended online-offline learning model.

Starting in the second semester of this year, SK Telecom and Soonchunhyang University plan to offer a separate curriculum for special education students. The program, called “Reading and Writing the World with AI,” is designed to support literacy activities and expand AI learning opportunities for educationally underserved groups.

SK Telecom says it intends to use this partnership to position AI Picture Diary as a comprehensive classroom AX solution—covering student writing, creative work, sharing of results, and teacher-led instruction—and to gradually scale its adoption across more schools.
