Kakao Pay continued its solid growth in the second quarter of this year, breaking its quarterly record for both sales and operating profit.

While all business sectors, including payments, finance and platforms, have recorded double-digit growth, it is said that the transition from payment companies to comprehensive financial platforms is becoming clear, especially as the share of financial service sales exceeds half.

Kakao Pay announced on the 4th that it recorded 335.79 billion won in consolidated operating profit (sales) and 58.63 billion won in operating profit through its provisional performance announcement in the second quarter.

Sales rose 40.6% year-on-year, the highest quarterly record, while operating profit surged 528.2% over the same period, continuing its fourth consecutive quarter of growth.

The operating profit ratio was 17.5 percent, up 6.8 percentage points from the previous quarter (10.7 percent). Net income was KRW 49.5996 billion, up 251.3 percent from the same period last year, and the net income rate was 14.8 percent.

On a separate basis, it recorded double-digit growth with sales of KRW 6.763 billion (17.7% year-on-year) and operating profit of KRW 26.16 billion (83.2% year-on-year).

According to Kakao Pay, the total transaction amount (TPV) in the second quarter was 54.2 trillion won, up 20% year-on-year, and the sales contribution transaction amount (Revenue TPV), which is directly linked to profits, grew 19% to 15.7 trillion won.

In terms of sales composition, payment services recorded 141.373 billion won, financial services recorded 175.25 billion won, and platform services recorded 18.5 billion won.

In particular, the financial services sector grew 99% on the back of increased stock transactions at home and abroad, and the insurance sector also grew 86% due to demand for core and new lineups and increased sales of insurance databases (DB), leading to overall sales growth.

As a result, the company explained that financial services accounted for 52% of total sales, and the business diversification structure has settled down.

Payment services grew 16% online, 58% offline, and 21% overseas, showing a balanced expansion in all channels, while offline continued to grow thanks to increased use of public welfare subsidies and marketing of benefit programs such as “Good Deal.”

In terms of business feasibility indicators, the number of daily active users (DAU) increased 9% year-on-year to 6.95 million, and the proportion of total monthly active users (MAU) was 29%. The number of transactions per user (ATPU) increased to 87 and the sales contribution per user (ARPU) increased to 13,979 won, respectively, improving profitability per user.

In the second quarter, operating expenses increased 20.8% year-on-year to 276.5 billion won, but they did not reach the sales growth rate (40.6%), showing an operating leverage effect.

By category, payment fees accounted for the largest portion with 113.945 billion won, and labor costs increased 8% to 68.557 billion won, but decreased 3.3% from the previous quarter due to efficient manpower management.

Advertising expenses increased 32.8% to 27.419 billion won due to strengthened online and offline alliance marketing, but the proportion of sales was managed at the 8% level.

◆ Over 6 million offline users due to the spread of cross-use of payments

Kakao Pay emphasized that it is increasing the ecosystem lock-in effect with a strategy that induces cross-use between online, offline, and overseas payment channels.

Sales of “Non-Captive,” an external franchise transaction that is not its own affiliated store (Captive), grew by 22%, expanding the share of online payment sales to 65%.

Customers who cross-use more than five services per month had a dropout rate of less than 1%, and their payment per person was 7.1 times higher than that of a single service user.

The number of monthly offline payment users exceeded 6 million, and the cumulative number of transactions in the quarter was 150 million, up 31% year-on-year. The monthly users of the benefit program “Good Deal” recorded 400,000 people, and about 3 million people experienced benefits per month.

◆ Loans ‘Kakao Pay Score’ Spread, Securities and Insurance Subsidiaries Grow High

Kakao Pay Score, an alternative credit rating model, was introduced by 12 financial institutions as of the end of the second quarter of 2026 after its launch in the third quarter of 2025, and plans to expand it to more than 20 by the end of this year.

Kakao Pay Securities, a subsidiary of Kakao Pay Securities, recorded 121.9 billion won in sales and 39.6 billion won in operating profit in the second quarter, and its cumulative operating profit (63.1 billion won) in the first half has already exceeded its annual performance last year.

Customer deposits increased 279% year-on-year to 21.1 trillion won, while domestic and foreign stock transactions surged 497% to 139.9 trillion won.

Net inflows continued to grow for six consecutive quarters, with 4.8 trillion won coming in in the second quarter alone.

Kakao Pay Insurance recorded 25.6 billion won in sales in the second quarter, and the new pet insurance achieved 10,000 cumulative contracts in the shortest period of time in the industry.

Kakao Pay said it was included in the UK’s FTSE Russell Sustainability Index series this quarter.
