Hyundai Motor, Kia, Stellantis Korea and Honda Korea will begin voluntary corrective measures on a rolling basis after manufacturing defects, including fire and malfunction risks, were found in 512,393 vehicles across 13 models.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) said on the 6th that it had identified manufacturing defects in 512,393 vehicles across 13 models produced, imported or sold by Hyundai Motor, Kia, Stellantis Korea and Honda Korea, and that voluntary corrective measures (recalls) would begin.
Hyundai Motor started corrective measures on the 30th of last month for 104,781 vehicles across two models, including the Tucson, after inadequate software design in the forward collision-avoidance assist system was found to pose a risk of accidents due to malfunction. For 127,059 vehicles across five models, including the G80, improper nut fastening of internal engine components could allow fuel to leak and lead to fires, with measures beginning on the 12th of this month. For 168,181 vehicles across two models, including the Avante, a software design defect in the hybrid integrated controller responsible for power conversion and motor control could cause internal elements to overheat and catch fire, with corrective measures beginning on the 13th of this month.
Kia will begin recalls on the 12th of this month for 109,237 vehicles across two models, including the K8, after fuel leak and fire risks were found stemming from improper nut fastening of internal engine components, as with Hyundai Motor.
For 711 Jeep Cherokee vehicles from Stellantis Korea, faulty assembly of the powertrain could cause the gears to be damaged, leading to loss of power while driving or the vehicle moving while parked and causing an accident. Corrective measures have been under way since the 3rd of this month.
For 2,424 Honda Korea Odyssey vehicles, a safety standard non-compliance was found in which moisture seeping through cracks in the rear camera case could corrode the circuit board and prevent images from being displayed. Recalls have been in progress since the 4th of this month.
