Line Manga, the Japanese-language service of Naver Webtoon, has partnered with Japanese mobile carrier NTT Docomo to launch “d Anime Store for Line Manga,” a flat-rate anime streaming service, the company said on the 5th. It marks the first time Line Manga has introduced a subscription-based anime viewing service.
“d Anime Store for Line Manga” is available through the “Anime” tab within the Line Manga app. “d Anime Store,” operated by NTT Docomo, is one of Japan’s leading anime-specialized subscription streaming services, with about 4 million members.
Through this partnership, Line Manga plans to combine strong anime content competitiveness with its own comic user base to offer a new content experience that lets users enjoy comics and animation together.
The “Anime” tab on Line Manga offers a broad range of more than 4,000 titles, from the latest releases to popular works, and the company plans to continue expanding its lineup.
Naver Webtoon explained that the new service is part of a strategy to expand webtoon and comic intellectual property (IP) tailored to regional content consumption trends. In Japan, the partnership strengthens the connection between comics and animation, while in Korea the “Cuts” tab and globally the “Watch” tab are expanding video content experiences centered on short animation.
