LG U+ is expanding its public cloud business by utilizing Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud infrastructure. Combining its own network and security operations capabilities with AWS’ cloud services, it targets the demand for artificial intelligence transformation (AX) and cloud transformation of public institutions.

On the 12th, LG Uplus announced that it has officially registered ‘LG Uplus Intermediary Service for Amazon Web Services’, which provides AWS’s infrastructure as a service (IaaS) in its digital service use support system. The service was selected after a review by the Digital Service Review Committee of the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 31st of last month.

The digital service use support system is a platform dedicated to the public sector that allows the government, local governments, and public institutions to search and contract digital services such as cloud and software. With this registration, public institutions can use AWS cloud services brokered by LG U+ through the system.

As an AWS select tier partner, LG U+ provides more than 200 cloud services provided by AWS, including computing and storage space, databases, networks, and artificial intelligence (AI), to public institutions.

In particular, it plans to target the demand for Generative AI introduction by public institutions. Examples include civil complaint counseling and work support using Generative AI, chatbot AI-based information search service, and database construction for statistical and administrative data management. It also provides computing resources and AI development environments needed for learning and inference of Large Language Models (LLMs).

Another advantage is that public institutions can increase or reduce cloud resources as much as necessary. You don’t have to build your own servers and equipment. In addition, the initial infrastructure investment burden can be reduced by paying based on usage. LG U+ also operates a customer support system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

With this registration, LG U+ plans to expand its business scope to the overall cloud transformation of public institutions. In the cloud introduction stage, an infrastructure configuration plan is proposed in consideration of each institution’s work and security standards, and after construction, it supports operation and efficiency. Its own network and security data AX capabilities will also be linked to the cloud business.

We will support public institutions to introduce AWS cloud infrastructure more quickly and stably, said Chung Young-hoon, executive director of LG Uplus’ corporate AI business. “We will support public institutions’ cloud native transformation by combining their AX business capabilities and experience in developing and operating AI services such as AICC.”
