U.S. President Donald Trump posted a photo of the “Panmunjeom Lightning Meeting” with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on his social media on the 15th (local time).

On Truth Social, President Trump posted a picture taken side by side with Chairman Kim at the Joint Security Area (JSA) in Panmunjom, saying, “We don’t look good in this specific photo, but there are many pictures of us smiling,” adding, “Kim Jong-un and I get along very well!”

The Panmunjom meeting took place on June 30, 2019, during the first period of President Trump’s presidency. It was the third meeting following the Singapore meeting on June 12, 2018 and the Hanoi meeting in Vietnam on February 27-28, 2019.

At that time, President Trump met with Chairman Kim at the Military Demarcation Line and shook hands with him, then moved to the North for a while, becoming the first U.S. president to step on North Korean soil during his tenure. Earlier, on June 13, President Trump also posted a photo of his first meeting in Singapore with Chairman Kim on social media. It was around eight years after the Singapore talks.

President Trump’s successive posting of photos of his meetings with Chairman Kim is interpreted as an attempt to promote his achievements and emphasize that he is the only Western leader to have a good relationship with Chairman Kim. Furthermore, it may be seen as a sign that he intends to meet with Chairman Kim again.
