President Lee Jae Myung invited party leader Kim Min-seok and candidates Chung Chung-rae and Song Young-gil to the Blue House on the 19th, who participated in the Democratic Party’s regular national party congress. It is interpreted as a move to calm the “myeongcheong conflict” that arose at the national convention and emphasize harmony and unity within the party.
President Lee will invite Kim and candidates Chung Chung-rae and Song Young-gil to have a dinner at Cheong Wa Dae on the 19th, said Kang Yoo-jung, a senior spokesman for the presidential office on the 17th. “This dinner is designed to further solidify cooperation in state affairs between the ruling party and the presidential office, which examines the party’s integration and people’s livelihoods and the economy.” In just two days of the national convention, all the candidates will be gathered. Earlier in August last year, President Lee invited Rep. Chung Chung-rae and Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae 10 days after the national convention.
President Lee sent a video congratulatory message to the Democratic Party of Korea convention held at the Daejeon Convention Center, saying, “From today, we should unite as one with the new leadership. Our Democratic Party was the strongest when we were one.” It called for integration within the party again. When Chung was the party leader, conflicts between the party and the presidential office were exposed on the surface over △ abolition of the prosecutor’s supplementary investigation rights △ integration with the Cho Kuk Innovation Party △ evaluation of the June 3 local elections. In June, Rep. Chung was absent from President Lee’s departure ceremony.

In response, lawmaker Chung said, “The people are eternal and the regime is short,” calling for a backlash from the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction. President Lee also expressed discomfort through X, saying, “The ruling party should focus more on the language of responsibility than on the language of faith.” Some analysts said that the president’s and ruling party’s approval ratings were struggling due to the Myungcheong conflict.
Realmeter announced the results of a poll of 2,511 voters aged 18 or older nationwide from the 10th to the 14th at the request of the Energy Economy Newspaper, and President Lee’s approval rating was 43%, down 0.3 percentage points from last week. The “low since taking office” has been renewed again, continuing its downward trend for five consecutive weeks. Some observers say that if the relationship between the party and the presidential office is restored stably after the Democratic Party’s national convention, the appointment of some Cheong Wa Dae staff and the Cabinet will take place. This is because there are growing calls for personnel reform as the approval rating continues to decline.
