In the project to build national artificial intelligence (AI), LG Group AI Research Institute, SK Telecom, and Upstage advanced to the semifinals. The elite team plans to improve usability and advance it so that it can be easily used in the industry and in real life, and secure global competitiveness.

On the 18th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that among the four elite teams, △LG AI Research Institute ‘K-Exemployee 2.0’, △SK Telecom ‘AIDATX K2’ △ Upstage ‘Solar Open 2’ will advance to the next stage. Motif Technologies (“Motif 3”) was eliminated.

The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that it focused on synthesizing benchmarks, experts, and user evaluations and promoting artificial intelligence transformation (AX). The gap between evaluations was not large. The benchmark averaged 22.5 points on the elite team, with a gap of only 4.0 points between the first and fourth places. The average literature evaluation was 28.8 points to 2.4 points, and the average user evaluation was 17.6 points to 5.0 points. The elite teams that took the lead in each evaluation area were also different.

Ryu Je-myung, vice minister of science and technology information and communication, said, “The gap between each item was so small that it was difficult to see which item was particularly decisive,” adding, “It is the result of comprehensive verification by experts so that there is no part that could lead to unfair competition.”

While the first evaluation focused on the technical completeness of the AI model and whether it was independently developed, the second evaluation reportedly focused on the “Agency AI” capability, which determines how autonomously it is performed when applied to work and sites.

An official from SK Telecom said, “It was possible because of the efforts of companies and institutions participating in the consortium that have been participating in the next stage. We will unveil a series of lightweight and inference acceleration technologies so that we can use AEDATX K2 with less infrastructure.”

LG AI Research Institute is planning to secure an ultra-scale model of the flagship class on the same scale as Big Tech. It believes that equal competition is difficult with small models, so it secures a technological foundation that can learn and operate super-large models stably and strives to improve response quality and utilization performance enough to be felt by users.

As Upstage enters the final stage of demonstration, it focuses on upgrading actual use models and spreading globally so that the public can feel the convenience of AI. In this process, it is expected to utilize the portal DAUM acquired from Kakao.

The Ministry of Science and ICT will expand support for Nvidia’s high-performance graphics processing unit (GPU) B200 to three elite teams that have passed the second evaluation. After the final evaluation, the two elite teams that will reach the final will be able to name the AI model ‘K-AI’.
