[[B1]] Kakao Pay Securities said 30,000 people joined its “stock wedding gift” campaign in about two weeks, with 37% of applicants having no existing account at the brokerage.
[[B2]] The company said on the 19th that more than 30,000 people had verified their marriages under a campaign titled “In 2026, Korea Is a Country Where You Get Stocks When You Marry.” That milestone came about two weeks after the campaign launched on the 22nd of last month.
[[B3]] Under the campaign, couples who registered their marriage this year receive domestic stocks worth 50,000 won ($36) per person, or up to 100,000 won per couple, after verifying the marriage.
[[B4]] Participation topped 15,000 within five days of the launch and reached 20,000 before 10 days had passed. It then surpassed 30,000 in the first week of August. By age group, people in their 30s made up the largest share at 71.7%, followed by those in their 20s at 23.9% and those in their 40s at 4.2%. Some participation also came from people in their 50s and 60s.
[[B5]] Applicants without an existing Kakao Pay Securities account accounted for 37% of the total. The company believes the campaign has helped draw in new users who are trying stock investing for the first time on the occasion of marriage.
[[B6]] Kakao Pay Securities plans to gradually consider similar campaigns that award stocks at other turning points in life, such as childbirth and starting a job, following marriage.
[[B7]] Marriage verification documents can be submitted until January 10 next year. Applicants who issue a marriage certificate through their KakaoTalk wallet and submit it do not need to open a separate securities account at the application stage.
[[B8]] “Creating a culture of sending your feelings through stocks, much as people wish each other a happy birthday on KakaoTalk, is something Kakao Pay Securities can do well,” said Shin Ho-chul, CEO of Kakao Pay Securities. “We will continue to focus on delivering finance that gives the future as a gift.”
