Genesis, the luxury vehicle brand of the South Korean multinational conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group, has launched the hotly anticipated GV90 as its first flagship crossover SUV, now sitting at the top of the family alongside the G90 limousine.
Hyundai envisioned the Genesis nameplate as its luxury sedan since 2004, but it then switched to a full-scale implementation of a dedicated, independent premium brand, announced in late 2015. Its first model was the Genesis G90, launched in 2017, and now it has a full roster with both passenger cars and crossover SUVs.
Unlike the Genesis G90, which was introduced as a second generation back in 2021, packing V6 engines under the hood, the new Genesis GV90 is a different kind of ‘beast:’ it’s not only a crossover SUV but also comes with the eMP platform, exclusively for the new Genesis flagship, with a 123.5 kilowatt-hour large-capacity battery, high-performance motors, Dual E-LSD and multi-chamber air suspension.
The first full-size flagship SUV from Genesis is a proud representative of the electrification era, with the premium South Korean automaker premiering the GV90 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on August 19, 2026, even though America isn’t very fond of EVs right now. Quite obviously, as the name implies, the Genesis GV90 is the production model stemming from the Neolun concept introduced in 2024.
“GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity, and industry-leading safety,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group. “Technology alone does not create luxury, and design alone does not define luxury. The value of innovation lies in transforming the customer experience in intelligent and intuitive ways, to improve people’s lives.”
Built on the eMP platform exclusive for the Genesis flagship, the GV90 will be available in two distinctive flavors: the standard GV90 with conventional swing doors and the GV90 Neolun, featuring the all-new Neolun Arch Gate, “the world’s first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach doors.”
It will also have a world’s first Roof Airbag, a 123.5 kilowatt-hour large-capacity high-voltage battery, dual Electronic Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD), multi-chamber air suspension, a New Power Control System, a pop-up center OLED Cinematic Display, Pleos Connect, Remote Smart Parking Assist 3, Bang & Olufsen’s Premier 3D sound system with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos, Ambient Glow mood lighting, the Smart Vision Roof, as well as a heated windshield, among other features.
There’s a Wireless Battery Management System (WBMS) for maximum efficiency, a combined maximum output of 490 kilowatts or 657 hp and 800 Nm or 590 lb-ft of torque, with the range tested internally at 500 km (311 miles) for the seven-seat GV90 and a charging rate of 350 kW for quick top-ups from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes.
