President Lee Jae Myung had dinner with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won on the 20th. President Lee is reportedly scheduled to meet with business leaders including Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun as well as Chairman Choi. According to the political and business circles, President Lee and Chairman Choi held a dinner meeting on the same day. It has been two months since the private meeting ahead of the announcement of the three mega projects. Earlier, President Lee met with Chairman Choi at the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit held in San Francisco, USA. The dinner meeting is expected to discuss △Honam Semiconductor Cluster Investment △Yongin Semiconductor Cluster △Pressure on memory investment to the U.S. △AI Semiconductor Strategy.
President Lee held a meeting of senior secretaries and aides at Cheong Wa Dae on the same day and said, “If there is a widespread perception that if you follow the rules, you will lose money, and if you break the rules, it will be difficult for any policy to work,” adding, “I hope you will join forces to reform uninterrupted and continue to reform people’s livelihoods.”
At the same time, he reiterated the establishment of public office discipline. President Lee raised his voice, saying, “Even in the previous governments, there have been frequent cases of losing public trust due to lax discipline in public offices at a time when tensions are loosened at the beginning of the term.”
Earlier in the morning, President Lee met with Wang Yi, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and the foreign minister. Through this meeting, the two sides are expected to evaluate the direction of development of Korea-China relations and discuss △ multilateral discussions over the end of the Korean War △ denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula △ full restoration of Korea-China relations.
On the previous day, President Lee posted an article on X late at night to strengthen U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative to resume U.S.-North Korea dialogue by reducing the South Korea-U.S. joint exercise. President Lee praised President Trump’s message, saying, “It feels like a big decision to make peace.” “We believe that a peace regime that does not need to fight is the perfect security asset, and we sympathize with President Trump’s will and efforts to create dialogue conditions for the establishment of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula through this reduction and pay tribute to his decision,” he wrote.
