Amid damage in South Gyeongnam caused by heavy rain, the Hanwha Group is donating 2 billion won for flood-recovery efforts and will add another 1 billion won to support vulnerable groups. Separately, the affiliate Hanwha Ocean is deploying equipment such as dredging vehicles, pumps, and generators, along with operating personnel, to support recovery efforts at flooded areas in Geojje.
According to Hanwha Group (Chairman Kim Seung-yeon) on the 23rd, the company will donate 2 billion won to the 전국재해구호협회 to help speed up flood-recovery efforts in South Gyeongnam, including Geojje, Tongyeong, and Sacheon.
The donation is expected to be used for emergency livelihood expenses for affected residents, preparing temporary housing facilities, and providing essential supplies.
In addition to its flood-recovery efforts, the Hanwha Group will contribute an extra 1 billion won to support vulnerable groups in South Gyeongnam. The funds will be disbursed starting in September through the Green Umbrella and the Gyeongsangnam-do Volunteer Center. The money will be used to buy learning materials for children from low-income families, provide living expenses for elderly people living alone, and renovate welfare facilities.
The full 1 billion won will be paid entirely in local currency.
Immediately after the heavy rain damage, Hanwha Ocean supported operating personnel and equipment such as dredging vehicles, pumps, and generators to ensure rapid dewatering at the flooded site in the Geojje area. It also provided drinking water, gloves, and snacks to volunteer organizations participating in flood-recovery efforts.
Previously, in March 2025, the Hanwha Group donated 1 billion won to support victims of wildfires in North Gyeongbuk, South Gyeongnam, and Ulsan. In July of the same year, it provided 2 billion won to support recovery from nationwide heavy-rain damage.
A Hanwha Group official said, “We hope the donation will help people struggling due to the downpour to get their daily lives back as soon as possible,” adding, “We will do our best to support disaster recovery and vulnerable groups in the region.”
