The boy from “Baby Shark Dance” is all grown up and making music of his own. Baby Shark Boy, who appeared in the original viral video a decade ago, has released his debut single “WAVE,” featuring JOOHONEY of MONSTA X.
The release connects one of the biggest internet phenomena ever with the real-life performer who grew up alongside it. “Baby Shark Dance” has surpassed 17.2 billion views and remains the most-viewed video in YouTube history.
Baby Shark Boy resurfaced last year as part of Baby Shark’s 10th-anniversary short-form content, generating more than 22 million views and introducing audiences to the teenager behind one of the most recognizable childhood performances online.
“WAVE” deliberately begins with the familiar “Baby Shark” melody before moving into an electropop dance track with trap elements, giving the musical reference point a completely different setting.
Baby Shark Boy also participated in writing the lyrics, using the song to reflect on what it means to return 10 years later and begin something new.
“For me, Baby Shark Dance was like the first wave that began 10 years ago,” he says. “I grew up riding that wave, and now I’m standing at a new starting point as Baby Shark Boy.”
JOOHONEY brings his rap style to the track alongside Baby Shark Boy’s vocals, giving the debut a major K-pop connection through MONSTA X.
The choreography goes even deeper into that world. TEAM SAME, led by choreographer Young-jun Choi, created the performance, with Choi’s previous credits including BTS, SEVENTEEN and TWICE.
The dance also pays tribute to some of the signature movements from “Baby Shark Dance,” reworking them into a K-pop routine designed to be energetic and easy to follow.
There’s something wonderfully surreal about hearing one of the internet’s most unavoidable melodies reworked into a full electropop debut 10 years later. “WAVE” turns Baby Shark Boy’s unusual place in pop culture into the starting point for whatever comes next.
The Pinkfong Company is also preparing ‘WAVE: Becoming Baby Shark Boy,’ a behind-the-scenes documentary following his growth and the making of the single. Additional collaborations are under consideration, including a possible appearance in an upcoming Baby Shark film planned for winter 2026.
“WAVE” is available now across major streaming platforms, with its official music video on Baby Shark Boy’s YouTube channel.
