Mattress manufacturer Simmons has entered into a partnership with Posco and Kiswire to jointly develop and supply specialized steel wire for mattress springs. The collaboration is intended to strengthen the company’s domestic supply chain for key materials, The Korea Herald reports.

Simmons and Posco will jointly research spring wire developed specifically for mattresses. Kiswire will process the wire produced by Posco using specialized wire technologies and then supply the material to Simmons.
Simmons will use this material to manufacture mattresses designed for durability. The company announced the three-way cooperation during a media tour at the Simmons Factorium facility in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.

Lee Jeong Seong, Simmons’ vice president for manufacturing strategy and logistics, called the partnership an example of cooperation between companies that combines their core competencies and technologies.
Quality and safety standards
During the tour, the company also presented the Simmons Standard 5 criteria system, which covers manufacturing processes and customer service. It includes vanadium pocket springs, quality control, a clean production environment, direct delivery and customer support.
Simmons also announced an expansion of its product safety standards. The company already held safety certificates for radon and thoron, an eco-label, and produced fire-resistant mattresses. In addition, it obtained the international UL Greenguard Gold and Dermatest Excellent certifications.
