Hanwha Horizon USA will serve as the control tower for Hanwha Aerospace’s LNG business, handling everything from LNG procurement to trading and logistics optimization. The subsidiary will be led by James Saeger, CEO of Hanwha Shipping, who has more than 30 years of experience in the maritime and energy sectors, in a dual role.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to strengthen its global competitiveness by building a value chain centered on Hanwha Horizon USA that spans LNG transportation, supply and power generation. Hanwha Horizon USA also plans to supply fuel to the Yeosu Hanwha LNG power plant, which is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2029, and expand LNG supplies to power companies and energy firms in South Korea and overseas. In the medium to long term, it will also fully launch its LNG trading business in global markets, including Asia.
Through its LNG business, Hanwha Aerospace aims to build a stable energy supply chain while also contributing to stronger energy security cooperation between South Korea and the United States. It also expects to create an integrated security partnership spanning both energy and defense.
Previously, Hanwha Aerospace secured a supply base by signing an LNG purchase contract with U.S. LNG producer Venture Global. It also signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. to establish Team Korea for stronger global LNG cooperation, while working to enhance LNG procurement competitiveness and diversify the supply chain.
More recently, it secured financial competitiveness for its LNG expansion by obtaining an ‘A-‘ credit rating from Standard & Poor’s (S&P), a global credit rating agency.
