Samsung Electronics has unveiled a next-generation portable SSD that uses the USB4 interface. The flagship model supports up to 4,000MB/s in sequential read speeds and 3,800MB/s in write speeds. It boosts data transfer speeds by about 2 times compared with the previous model and delivers up to 8TB capacity to meet surging data demand such as AI content and ultra-high-resolution video, as well as large-scale games.
Samsung Electronics (CEO President Noh Tae-moon) unveiled portable SSD “P9” and “P7” based on USB4 at “Gamescom 2026,” held in Cologne, Germany, on the 26th (local time).

Based on the USB4 interface, P9 supports up to 4,000MB/s sequential read and 3,800MB/s sequential write. Sequential read and write speeds are about twice as fast as the existing T series (T9 and T7). The sequential read and write speeds of the T9 are 2,000MB/s each.
Another feature is that Samsung Electronics has implemented a USB4 product that supports transfer speeds of 4,000MB/s even at an 8TB capacity. Samsung Electronics said that P9 won the “CES 2026 Innovation Award.”
P9 supports “12K Direct Recording,” which allows users to directly record 12K video onto a storage device in professional shooting environments, backed by sustained write performance. It is a feature aimed at professional creators who store and edit large-volume RAW photos and ultra-high-resolution video.

P7 is designed for everyday use environments such as work and entertainment. It uses the USB4 interface and is compatible with a variety of devices, including desktop and laptop computers as well as smartphones, game consoles, and cameras.

The P series comes in four capacities—1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB—and will be rolled out sequentially to global markets starting in September, including South Korea.
