Naver’s music streaming platform “Vive,” launched in 2018, will close on December 31 this year.

Naver Vibe announced on the 26th that “the service will be terminated due to changes in the business environment,” and that it will end the service on December 31 after suspending new subscriptions and payments on November 27.

Vibe is a native music streaming service such as Melon and Genie Music, and was introduced by Naver in 2018.

It has also been provided as a content benefit alliance of Naver Plus Membership, and unlike other platforms, it has attracted attention by introducing a “user-specific settlement method” that distributes user fees to artists.

However, due to competition with domestic platforms and the expansion of YouTube Music’s Korean market, the number of users has continued to decline, and in September 2023, it was excluded from Naver Plus membership benefits.

According to IGAWorks Mobile Index, the monthly active users (MAU) of the Vibe app in June this year is around 460,000.

In addition, Naver joined hands with global music streaming service Spotify in November last year to add Spotify to its membership benefits, reducing its energy from Vibe.

Meanwhile, Vibe users will be suspended from new subscriptions and regular payments from November 27, and only memberships paid before that will be available until the end of the service. Users who used Vibe through the LG U+ alliance membership will also stop paying for additional services and paying vouchers from November 27.

MP3 files purchased by users cannot be downloaded and played on the Vibe app after the end of the service, and if the remaining deadline for download remains, they can be downloaded through the PC website until June 30 next year.

As Vibe ended its service, only Melon, Genie Music, and Flo are left on the native music platforms.

According to the Mobile Index, YouTube Music ranks first with 8.51 million MAUs as of June, followed by Melon with 7.13 million. Genie Music (2.88 million) and Spotify (2.38 million) are competing for the third place.
