Doosan Group said Thursday it would provide $5 million in emergency aid to Nepal’s Rasuwa district, where devastating flash floods struck a hydropower construction site and left six employees of its affiliate Doosan Enerbility missing.
The contribution will be used to support search and rescue operations and other recovery efforts.
“We hope the assistance will help enable a swift response and recovery from the large-scale disaster that occurred so suddenly,” a Doosan official said.
On Wednesday, flash floods hit Rasuwa district in northern Nepal, sweeping through the construction site of the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project, where Doosan Enerbility is serving as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor on the project.
Nine Korean nationals are missing as of press time, including six from Doosan Enerbility and three from state-run Korea South-East Power, which is in charge of investments in and the operation of the project.
Doosan Enerbility has established an emergency response headquarters to assess the situation and coordinate rescue and recovery efforts. The company dispatched an emergency response team to Nepal on Thursday, led by CEO Jung Yeon-in. KOEN also dispatched an emergency team for on-site rescue and response.
