Doosan (000150) Chairman Park Jeong-won said on the 27th that confirming the safety and securing the safe return of six Doosan Enerbility (034020) employees who lost contact after flooding in Nepal is the company’s top priority.
In a message posted on the company’s internal bulletin board, Park said Doosan is working closely with local authorities and related agencies to verify the situation through every available channel. “We will concentrate the full capabilities of the group so that the search, rescue and recovery measures are carried out swiftly and systematically,” he said.
Six South Korean employees of Doosan Enerbility who had been building a hydroelectric power plant in Nepal’s Rasuwa district went missing after large-scale flooding hit the area the previous day. Doosan Enerbility activated an emergency response headquarters immediately after the incident and is assessing conditions on the ground, while a response team of seven to eight people led by Chief Executive Chung Yeon-in was dispatched to the site.
“The company views this situation with the utmost gravity, and above all we bear the weight of the anxiety and pain of the families waiting for news with desperate hearts every moment, and the concern of their colleagues,” Park said. “We earnestly hope our colleagues can return safely to the arms of their families and coworkers. I ask all employees to pray with one heart for our colleagues.”
Doosan Group decided to provide $5 million (about 6.9 billion won) in emergency aid for search, rescue and recovery efforts in the flood-hit areas of Nepal.
