SK Hynix celebrated its partnership with Purdue, West Lafayette and the state of Indiana Aug. 27 at a ground breaking ceremony
Some of the speakers at the ceremony included the CEO of SK Hynix, Governor Mike Braun, Senator Todd Young, Purdue President Mitch Daniels and West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter.
SK Hynix said it chose Purdue and West Lafayette it’s because the state government was very welcoming to them
“We considered the factors like the land, power and support from the local government,” SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung said.
Governor Braun gave a speech at the ground breaking. He said he believes that SK Hynix choosing Indiana is going to help make the Hoosier state a frontrunner on chip manufacturing in the U.S.
Mitch Daniels said in a speech that from Purdue’s perspective, SK Hynix will help the university train their students for jobs in the tech field more effectively.
Noh-Jung said that the company wasn’t just looking at the West Lafayette area when planning where to build.
“SK Hynix was considered anywhere around the world. We are really happy to start our first construction site in the U.S from Indiana,” Noh-Jung explained.
SK Hynix also feels that it is the company’s duty to give back to the community of West Lafayette.
