As the expansion of AI and data-driven services increases the burden of database operation costs and infrastructure management for companies, the demand for serverless-based databases that automatically optimize resources based on usage is rapidly growing.
Naver Cloud announced on the 12th that it has launched ‘Cloud DB Serverless,’ a fully managed serverless database service that automatically adjusts computing resources based on database usage.
This service is the first serverless-based cloud database product from a domestic company, characterized by supporting an enterprise-grade, high-performance, and high-capacity environment without the need for separate infrastructure management.
Until now, the domestic cloud database market has been dominated by virtual machine (VM)-based operating models. Consequently, it was necessary to secure an excessive number of servers to prepare for traffic surges, leading to persistent issues with the burden of fixed costs regardless of actual usage. Analysis suggests that with recent increases in infrastructure costs, there is a growing demand for efficient database operational structures.

Provides a feature to automatically optimize resources based on usage
‘Cloud DB Serverless’ is based on a container-based serverless architecture and provides an auto-scaling feature that automatically increases or decreases CPU, memory, and storage resources depending on traffic conditions.
In addition, it is designed with a usage-based billing structure so that companies pay only for what they actually use. This is said to reduce the burden of securing excessive servers and increase operational efficiency.
Naver Cloud emphasized that it has secured both stability and scalability by integrating its cloud technology capabilities, including servers, networks, storage, and Kubernetes.
In particular, this service incorporates two proprietary patents, including real-time usage-based database backup optimization technology and technology that automatically allocates server resources to reduce costs and increase stability.
Naver Cloud plans to expand its services to public regions and strengthen support for various open-source databases. The strategy is to enhance service competitiveness by optimizing both cost and performance while meeting domestic cloud and data regulations.
Jeong Seung-yong, Leader of Naver Cloud’s Cloud DB Platform, said, “‘Cloud DB Serverless’ is a service that can simultaneously solve the resource management burden and cost inefficiency issues that companies have faced,” adding, “We will focus on providing an environment where users can concentrate on the business itself instead of infrastructure operations.”
