Muting your Galaxy phone before bed is pretty normal. Calls stay quiet, notifications stop bothering you, and you can actually sleep without your phone buzzing every few minutes. The problem is that you probably still want your alarm to make some noise in the morning.
Thankfully, Samsung gives you a separate setting for this inside the Clock app. You can keep your phone muted or on vibrate and still have your alarms ring normally.
How to make your Galaxy alarm ring when your phone is muted
Samsung Clock includes an option called Silence alarms when system sound is off. If your alarm isn’t ringing when your Galaxy phone is on Mute or Vibrate, this is the first setting you should check.
To make sure your Samsung Galaxy alarm rings even when your phone is muted:

Open the Clock app.
Make sure you’re on the Alarm tab.
Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
Tap Settings.
Find Silence alarms when system sound is off or Vibrate only for alarms and timers when phone is set to Vibrate or Mute (depending on One UI version).
Make sure the toggle is off.
With this option disabled, putting your Galaxy phone into Mute or Vibrate mode won’t automatically silence your alarms. You can keep calls and notifications quiet while you sleep and still have your alarm make noise when it’s time to wake up.
Make sure your alarm volume is turned up
You’ll also want to check that the alarm itself has a sound selected and that its volume isn’t too low.
Open the alarm you use, tap Alarm sound, and check the volume level. If necessary, adjust the alarm volume using the volume buttons or the on-screen volume control.
If your Samsung alarm is still too quiet, increasing the alarm volume here should help.
You can use one volume for every alarm, or set each one separately
Samsung’s Clock app also gives you more control over alarm volume, particularly on newer Galaxy phones.
Open Clock > three-dot menu > Settings > Volume. Depending on your Galaxy phone and One UI version, you’ll find two options:
Use the same volume for all alarms
Set different volumes for each alarm

Samsung uses the same volume for all alarms by default. This is the simplest choice if you want every alarm on your Galaxy phone to be loud enough to hear.
If you’re worried about sleeping through your Samsung alarm, you can use the shared-volume option and increase the alarm volume to a level that’s easier to hear.
The second option is useful if you have multiple alarms throughout the day. Select Set different volumes for each alarm, and Samsung Clock will let each alarm remember its own volume.
For example, you could set a loud 7:00 AM wake-up alarm while keeping a 2:00 PM reminder much quieter.
Check Do Not Disturb if your alarm isn’t ringing
There’s one more setting worth checking if your Samsung alarm isn’t sounding, especially if you automatically enable Do Not Disturb while sleeping.
Do Not Disturb has its own exceptions, separate from simply putting your phone into Mute or Vibrate mode.
Go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb > Allowed during Do Not Disturb > Alarms and sounds. Make sure Alarms is allowed.
You can then block calls, messages, and other notifications through Do Not Disturb while still letting your alarm through. This setting also applies to Samsung’s Sleep Mode when it is turned on.
Samsung specifically includes alarms among the sounds that can be allowed as a Do Not Disturb exception. It’s a useful combination if you want your Galaxy phone completely quiet overnight without risking sleeping through your alarm.
Why your Samsung alarm may not ring when your phone is on silent
If your Samsung Galaxy alarm isn’t ringing when your phone is muted, check these settings:
Silence alarms when system sound is off: Make sure this option is turned off in Clock settings.
Alarm sound: Confirm that the alarm has a sound selected.
Alarm volume: Make sure the alarm volume is high enough to hear.
Do Not Disturb: Check that alarms are allowed under Do Not Disturb settings.
Sleep Mode: If you use Sleep Mode, make sure alarms aren’t being blocked by its settings.
Checking these options should solve most cases where a Galaxy alarm appears to be silent.
A small Samsung setting that could save your morning
If you regularly mute your Samsung Galaxy phone before going to sleep, take a moment to check the Silence alarms when system sound is off setting in Samsung Clock.
Turn it off if you want your alarms to keep ringing while the phone is on Mute or Vibrate. Then decide whether you want the same volume for every alarm or a different volume for each one. And if you use Do Not Disturb at night, make sure alarms are included in its allowed sounds.
Samsung has added several useful features to its Clock app over the past few One UI releases. Per-alarm volume controls and the ability to keep alarms sounding when system audio is off aren’t flashy features, but they’re small quality-of-life improvements that can make a Galaxy phone much easier to use.
Most importantly, they can help make sure your Samsung alarm actually wakes you up in the morning.
