On September 2, KT announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Motor Company, MTR—a specialized mobility company for special-purpose vehicles—and Kidsnote, a smart notification platform company. Together, they will build a service that manages children from the time they board the vehicle, throughout the journey, until they safely alight. The aim is to prevent safety accidents resulting from children being left behind or unattended inside school buses, and to digitally transform the management of children’s school transportation operations.
KT’s role is to provide connectivity for the children’s school bus safety services leveraging its telecommunications and cloud platforms. In this process, KT will utilize its ‘RTX Fast’-based precise positioning service, developed in collaboration with Trimble. RTX Fast is a technology that supplies highly accurate lane-level positioning information by correcting satellite signals. This technology is expected to be expanded into other industries requiring precise location data, such as port and yard operations, and autonomous driving.
Hyundai Motor Company will supply the vehicle data, while MTR will be responsible for developing dedicated children’s school buses based on Hyundai Stararia EV, as well as applying, certifying, manufacturing, and selling built-in safety devices for these vehicles. Kidsnote will bridge vehicles and parents through its parent application and notification service.
The four companies will also incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), ultra-wideband (UWB), and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies. Through this, they plan to implement functions such as detecting children remaining inside vehicles, sharing real-time locations, automatic confirmation and notification of children’s boarding and alighting, in-vehicle safety monitoring, and automatic operation log recording. By establishing a new school bus safety model, they aim to extend cooperation into other areas such as academy shuttle vehicles, welfare transport vehicles, and mobility solutions for vulnerable groups.
