President Lee Jae-myung held a closed-door meeting with Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung on the 2nd, sources said on the 3rd. The meeting followed talks late last month with Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, part of a series of encounters with the heads of major business groups. Through these meetings, the president appears to be addressing corporate investment bottlenecks directly while accelerating joint public-private responses to key issues such as investment in the United States.
Investment plans for the Saemangeum area were a main item on the agenda in the talks with Chung, according to sources. Hyundai Motor has previously announced plans to invest about 9 trillion won in the Saemangeum district of North Jeolla Province to build an artificial intelligence data center, robot production facilities and hydrogen-related infrastructure. With the president paying close attention to the project’s progress, the two are believed to have discussed a broad range of topics, including the status of the investment and ways to boost synergy by linking it to the government’s three mega-projects.
Amid growing concerns over tariff pressure tied to delays in investment projects in the United States, the president also heard from Chung about difficulties companies face as the trade environment shifts, according to sources.
