Wonsan, North Korea – North Korea launched its new warship, the Kang Kon. This move reflects Pyongyang’s focus on strengthening its naval capabilities and expanding its military arsenal. It comes as North Korea continues to develop its nuclear and missile programs. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the launching ceremony, emphasizing that bolstering naval power is a priority for his country. He also stated that nuclear weapons are a cornerstone of its deterrence strategy and its approach to countering what Pyongyang considers threats from its adversaries.
Kim said his country is developing military capabilities that would enable its forces to deliver powerful strikes in the event of an attack. He also indicated that the new destroyer would bolster North Korea’s strategic deterrent. The commissioning of the new destroyer comes amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. This coincides with ongoing military exercises and cooperation between the United States and South Korea, which Pyongyang considers a direct threat to its security. North Korea has recently been modernizing its navy and introducing more advanced warships. This is being done in parallel with its missile and nuclear weapons development programs, in an effort to strengthen its deterrent capabilities and defend its territory.
