Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has set a target to increase women’s representation in its executive workforce to 20 per cent by 2030, as the automaker looks to strengthen its diversity and talent pipeline.

Women currently account for more than 8 per cent of HMIL’s executive workforce, which comprises over 4,000 employees. Meanwhile, around 45 per cent of Management Trainees and Engineer Trainees recruited by the company in 2026 are women, indicating a rising share of women in its early-career talent pool.

HMIL said women’s participation is increasing across manufacturing, engineering, R&D, sales, service, corporate functions and leadership roles.

Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said the company’s 20 per cent target reflects its focus on expanding opportunities, strengthening its talent pipeline and creating an environment that enables employees to develop their potential.

As part of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy, HMIL has introduced gender-balanced recruitment practices, expanded campus outreach and competency-based assessments, along with initiatives aimed at career progression and leadership development.

Women recorded a 23 per cent promotion/elevation rate in FY26, according to the company. HMIL has also expanded learning and leadership opportunities for women employees.

The company’s Women @ Work 2.0 programme provides maternity and parental support, childcare assistance, workplace flexibility, performance continuity measures and reintegration programmes.

HMIL’s TrailblazHER Leadership Initiative focuses on mentorship, capability building and career acceleration for high-potential women professionals.

The automaker has also introduced workplace infrastructure and welfare measures, including crèche facilities at manufacturing plants, wellness and relaxation rooms, enhanced safety and mobility support, preventive healthcare programmes and women-focused health initiatives.

HMIL said the initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 on gender equality and SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth.

The company said greater workforce diversity is becoming increasingly important as the automotive industry undergoes changes driven by advanced manufacturing, digitalisation and evolving customer expectations.
