POSCO Engineering & Construction said it saved 8,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity over four months through its “The Sharp Energy Saving Challenge.”
The savings came from 3,850 households across 32 The Sharp apartment complexes that used an automated demand response (Auto DR) system built on a smart home platform, the builder said on the 8th. Auto DR reduces power consumption by automatically controlling home appliances when electricity demand spikes. Residents need to take no action of their own to join “Energy Comma,” a nationwide demand response program run by the Korea Power Exchange, and can earn rewards based on how much power they save.
In 2024, POSCO E&C signed an agreement with the Korea Power Exchange, POSCO DX and Paran Energy to roll out Auto DR to 100,000 apartment households, building the necessary infrastructure and expanding the system to as many as 20,000 households across 32 The Sharp complexes nationwide.
“We will continue to expand the number of complexes using Auto DR and lead in eco-friendly residential services that improve both energy savings and resident convenience,” a POSCO E&C official said.
