HD Hyundai (267250.KS) and Hanwha Ocean (042660.KS) will showcase their capabilities in future eco-friendly and digital vessels and new offshore technologies side by side at the world’s largest gas industry exhibition, stepping up their push into global markets. In response to tightening global environmental rules and a rapidly shifting industrial paradigm driven by the spread of artificial intelligence, the two companies plan to put next-generation gas carriers and floating infrastructure at the forefront.

HD Hyundai and Hanwha Ocean will take part in Gastech 2026, held in Bangkok from the 14th to the 17th, unveiling a wide range of advanced technologies to global shipping companies and major energy industry officials, according to shipbuilding industry sources on the 13th. About 1,000 companies from around the world are taking part in this year’s Gastech, which is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors.

HD Hyundai Group Chairman Chung Kisun will oversee the event on site, joined by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (009540.KS) President Kim Hyung-kwan and key executives from major affiliates. Five affiliates — HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (329180.KS), HD Hyundai Samho, HD Hyundai Marine Solution (443060.KS) and HD Hyundai Electric (267260.KS) — will set up a joint booth to demonstrate their technologies in eco-friendly and digital transformation. A total of 30 official events are scheduled during the exhibition, including winning technology certifications from global classification societies and signing memorandums of understanding with leading companies. The company will complete a design appraisal from Lloyd’s Register recognizing the design suitability of a next-generation liquefied natural gas carrier fitted with a wind-assisted propulsion system and a bow-located accommodation block, and will also obtain approval in principle for a liquefied carbon dioxide carrier and a hybrid electric propulsion system. It also plans to hold a technology seminar on the world’s first three-tank LNG carrier, developed with France’s GTT, to promote its shipbuilding capabilities.

Hanwha Ocean will unveil a physical model of its in-house developed 60-megawatt floating data center for the first time. It is the first time the company has presented the FDC, which it is pursuing as a future business, to global customers in the form of a physical model.

The design is modular, allowing capacity and power generation methods to be configured flexibly to meet customer requirements, and it recently obtained approval in principle for its concept design from the American Bureau of Shipping, demonstrating its technical feasibility. Hanwha Ocean said the strength of the FDC being unveiled is that it brings together the Hanwha Group’s capabilities in data centers, shipbuilding and offshore, power and energy, operations and maintenance, and security into a single business model, expressing confidence in its competitiveness.

The company will also present a model of a 174,000-cubic-meter carbon-free LNG carrier. The vessel is being developed as a carbon-free electric propulsion ship powered by ammonia gas turbines, and aims to apply fully carbon-free technology that does not use pilot oil even during ignition.
