Chang In-hwa, chairman of POSCO Group, (pictured) emphasized “fast execution” and called for accelerating implementation of the group’s future growth strategy, Triple-Core (steel, secondary-battery materials, and energy).
Chang made the remarks at the 2026 POSCO Forum, held over two days from the 17th at the POSCO Global R&D Center in Songdo International City, Incheon. This year’s forum will finalize detailed implementation plans for the Triple-Core strategy announced in July and focus the group’s capabilities on securing tangible future competitiveness.
Triple-Core is POSCO Group’s next-generation core portfolio strategy. The plan calls for the group to move beyond its existing steel business, an industrial resource, and become a leading supplier of key resources by organizing lithium, cathode and anode materials, and rare earths as strategic resources, along with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy as energy resources, into three pillars.
Chang placed bold and swift execution at the top of the group’s priorities. “In a period of major transformation, when the competitive landscape is changing, fast execution is the key to survival,” Chang said. He stressed, “To complete the Triple-Core strategy, we must first read the direction of change and find clear answers.”
Chang also called for differentiated growth solutions tailored to the characteristics of each business. He stressed that the steel division should accelerate its global localization strategy, while lithium and rare earths, key battery materials, should seize leading positions in major markets. The energy business will serve as a buffer for companywide performance and help shield the group from business-cycle volatility.
The forum will consist of three sessions: how the competitive landscape is changing, where and how to compete and grow, and how to complete the transition. Global scholars and leading experts will deliver presentations and take part in panel discussions.
The keynote address was delivered by Dominic Barton, chairman of the board of global mining company Rio Tinto. Drawing on cases of global companies that achieved a breakthrough through portfolio restructuring and focused investment, Barton presented strategic directions for POSCO Group.
Group-wide measures to strengthen future manufacturing competitiveness were also put on the agenda. Executives examined the feasibility of applying physical AI-based autonomous manufacturing technology at production sites and explored ways to enhance future value. Based on the discussions at the forum, POSCO Group plans to finalize a medium-term execution agenda and immediately apply it across its businesses.
