Toss Bank announced on the 23rd that it will operate its Customer Service Center around the clock throughout the Chuseok holiday. Phone, email, and chat consultations will be available during the entire holiday period for account inquiries, banking assistance, and financial fraud victim reporting.
The move is designed to ensure customers face no disruptions to their banking needs during the extended holiday break. A Toss Bank representative said, “We are maintaining a 24-hour consultation system so that customers do not feel constrained in their financial activities during the long holiday and can respond immediately to fraud incidents.”
Toss Bank also urged heightened caution against financial fraud schemes targeting the holiday season. The bank noted that voice phishing and smishing attempts exploiting parcel delivery tracking and currency exchange demand tend to surge around major holidays.
In particular, fraudulent text messages impersonating card delivery notices, fine notifications, and event invitations are likely to be circulated intensively. Toss Bank stressed that customers should not access URLs from unverified sources or enter personal information.
Peer-to-peer transactions of leftover foreign currency are also flagged as a risk area. Such transactions carry the danger of involvement in money-laundering crimes and require special caution. Customers who suspect they have fallen victim to financial fraud can report it to Toss Bank’s Customer Service Center, the National Police Agency’s Telecommunications Financial Fraud Integrated Response Team (1394), or law enforcement authorities.
Toss Bank operates the “Fraud Suspicion Siren,” a system that detects suspicious transactions in real time. It has also established the “Reassurance Compensation Program” for customers who have suffered financial fraud losses.
In South Korea’s financial sector, longer holiday periods tend to drive up demand for non-face-to-face fraud reporting as in-person channels become limited. For internet-only banks, which have no physical branches, whether their customer service centers remain operational during holidays is considered a key factor determining financial accessibility.
