SK hynix (000660.KS) has emerged as the most sought-after employer in South Korea’s job market. The company’s public recruitment held last month topped page views on a major job platform’s recruitment information section, underscoring how the semiconductor super cycle and expectations of hefty performance bonuses have drawn job seekers’ attention.
SK hynix Tops Recruitment Views, Ahead of Kia and Hyundai Motor
According to Incruit on Wednesday, an analysis of page views on its “Recruitment News” section through the second week of May showed SK hynix accounted for 6.1% of total views, ranking first.
Kia (000270.KS) came in second at 5.1%, followed by Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) at 4.5%. Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) ranked fourth at 4.4%, and Korea Airports Corporation fifth at 4.0%. Korea Airports Corporation was the only public institution among the top 10.

The remaining rankings were Korea Investment & Securities (3.6%), CJ Group (3.2%), KT&G (2.9%), LG Electronics (2.6%), and Hanmi Pharmaceutical (2.5%). Job seekers showed particularly strong interest in large manufacturers in the automotive and semiconductor industries.
SK hynix’s top ranking reflects more than mere corporate preference — it captures the current mood of the job market. As the semiconductor industry recovery gains momentum and expectations of record earnings grow, SK hynix’s recruitment drive has generated enough buzz online to be dubbed a “national audition.”
‘Hynix Exam’ Emerges as Production Worker Recruitment Draws Spotlight

SK hynix’s public recruitment for production workers has also become a hot topic in the job market.
In March, SK hynix opened applications through its recruitment website for technical office and full-time positions, namely production roles. The recruitment targeted high school or junior college graduates available to join in July or August. Work locations include the Icheon campus in Gyeonggi Province, Yongin, and the Cheongju campus in North Chungcheong Province.
The positions included “maintenance” roles responsible for operating semiconductor production lines and maintaining equipment, and “operator” roles handling quality inspection and other tasks.
On online bookstores, study materials preparing candidates for SK hynix’s high school and junior college graduate recruitment written exam topped real-time bestseller lists in the test prep and certification category. The SKCT basic textbook published by Eduwill ranked first across all e-book categories. This led to the term “Hynix Exam” (hanik-gosi) being coined online.

The recruitment drew particular attention due to expectations for compensation. With SK hynix projected to post record-high earnings this year, the profit-sharing (PS) bonus pool is also expected to swell significantly.
Securities analysts estimate SK hynix could post operating profit of around 250 trillion won this year. Applying the PS calculation formula, the bonus pool could reach approximately 25 trillion won, and a simple division across the company’s roughly 35,000 employees suggests average bonuses in the hundreds of millions of won per person.
Actual bonuses, of course, vary by job category, base salary, length of service, and performance evaluation. SK hynix bonuses are calculated by multiplying base salary by a set ratio, and since production workers’ base pay is lower than that of office workers, actual payouts may differ from simple averages.
In addition, since this round of production and facility management hires are scheduled to join in August, their working period this year will be about four months. It will be difficult for them to receive the full bonus based on this year’s earnings. Still, analysts say the prospect of future bonuses in the hundreds of millions of won — should the company’s growth continue — is fueling the enthusiastic response.
“Can I Hide My College Degree?” Semiconductor Boom Reshapes Career Choices
The recruitment is being viewed as a symbolic case influencing young people’s career choices. Where “office jobs at large corporations” were once the quintessential aspirational career, “production jobs at Hynix” have now emerged as positions offering both stability and high income.
In particular, with eligibility for production worker recruitment limited to high school and junior college graduates, some job seekers have even posted questions online asking whether they can hide the fact that they graduated from a four-year university and still apply.
However, it is effectively impossible to conceal a four-year college degree to apply for a lower position. SK hynix requires membership registration and consent to use personal information during the online application process, through which four-year university graduation can be verified. If falsification or misrepresentation of academic credentials is discovered, the offer can be rescinded even after acceptance.
Still, the reason interest remains undiminished is clear. The semiconductor boom is not only lifting corporate earnings but also reshaping preferred jobs in the labor market and the career criteria of young people.
The enthusiasm surrounding SK hynix’s production worker recruitment shows that the standard for a “good job” is shifting. Rather than the distinction between office and production roles, actual compensation, stability, and whether the position is in a growth industry have emerged as more important criteria.
