Hyundai Mobis said on the 30th that it signed a memorandum of understanding on building a future mobility ecosystem, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, at its headquarters in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
Officials from 18 companies and institutions participating in the AI future mobility subcommittee of the M.AX (Manufacturing AI Transformation) Alliance attended the signing ceremony, including auto parts makers, chipmakers and research institutes.
The M.AX Alliance is a cooperative body led by the ministry that brings together industry, government, academia and research institutes to drive the AI transformation of domestic manufacturing. Its AI future mobility subcommittee aims to create a successful model for AI-based future mobility.
Hyundai Mobis is taking part as an anchor company in the alliance and as one of Korea’s leading mobility parts suppliers, contributing to the establishment of the cooperation framework.
From the perspective of a buyer, the company will identify automotive semiconductor components that need to be localized and present development requirements to fabless firms and research institutes, while actively cooperating on product verification and commercialization.
It will play a central role in fostering a domestic automotive semiconductor ecosystem and in supporting mid-sized automakers’ transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Major research institutes will build verification infrastructure based on actual vehicles and provide various evaluation programs.
By establishing a demand-linked cooperation framework that runs from development through verification to on-vehicle evaluation, the participants expect to identify domestic products that meet international standards at an early stage and to raise the localization rate for automotive semiconductors, currently around 5%.
Hyundai Mobis will also work with mid-sized domestic automakers on their SDV transition. It plans to develop a standardized platform applicable to a range of vehicle models and provide it to those companies.
“We plan to continue expanding cooperation between the government and industry in core future mobility technologies, including automotive semiconductors and SDVs, and to actively strengthen supply chain competitiveness,” an official at Hyundai Mobis said. “We will keep working to build up the domestic future mobility industry ecosystem and strengthen technological competitiveness, including by holding the second Automotive Semiconductor Korea forum (ASK) in the second half of this year.”
