Hanwha Group (000880.KS) held a joint waste collection activity with elementary school students and their families in South Gyeongsang Province.
The conglomerate said Friday that it hosted the “Clean School Environmental Sports Day” at Daewon Leports Park in Changwon on the 16th, with about 100 elementary school students and family members from the South Gyeongsang region taking part.
The event was conducted as one of the detailed programs under “Clean School Project,” Hanwha Group’s social contribution initiative.
The Clean School Project supports elementary schools nationwide with solar power generation equipment and fine dust reduction facilities. Now in its fifth year, the project has provided eco-friendly educational environment benefits to approximately 16,500 students at 27 schools across the country.
The sports day was designed to help children understand the importance of environmental protection through play and hands-on experience. Participants experienced the meaning of environmental protection through activities such as “Protect the Oxygen,” which used discarded banners as large fabric, “Recycled Box Jenga,” which involved stacking discarded delivery boxes alongside oversized Jenga blocks, and “Separate Disposal Fishing King,” in which team members cooperated to fish out trash.
All participants brought personal tumblers to refrain from using disposable cups. After the event ended, they engaged in “plogging”—jogging while picking up trash—creating an opportunity to practice environmental protection in daily life.
“This Clean School Environmental Sports Day was organized so that children could learn eco-friendly values while experiencing the preciousness of the environment firsthand,” a Hanwha Group official said. “Going forward, we plan to continue eco-friendly activities together with local communities through the Clean School Project and expand opportunities for children to develop environmental sensitivity.”
