Doosan Enerbility steam turbine
Doosan Enerbility (034020.KS) will supply four additional steam turbines to a US Big Tech company’s data center, securing a follow-on order just two months after winning its first steam turbine contract in the North American market in March.
Doosan Enerbility said Tuesday it has signed a contract to supply four 370-megawatt steam turbines and four generators to the US company. The contracted units will be delivered sequentially to Texas through 2029.
The steam turbines won in this order are key equipment for high-efficiency combined-cycle power generation, which uses waste heat from gas turbines to produce additional electricity. Combined-cycle generation refers to a method in which natural gas drives a gas turbine, and the waste heat generated in the process drives a steam turbine once again. With its high energy efficiency and ability to supply stable power, the technology has been drawing attention for use in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, which have recently been dubbed power-hungry behemoths.
“Following our first North American steam turbine order in March, we have once again confirmed our competitiveness in the North American market by signing this additional supply contract,” said Sohn Seung-woo, head of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. “Using this project as a springboard, we will further expand our points of contact with local customers and partners and actively pursue additional business opportunities in the North American market.”
Meanwhile, Doosan Enerbility had won 2.2 gigawatts worth of steam turbine orders as of the end of the first quarter this year. This represents approximately 38% of last year’s total orders of 5.8 gigawatts.
