LG Display (034220.KS) is moving to solidify its display leadership in the software-defined vehicle (SDV) era after gaining international recognition for the quality of its automotive software.

LG Display said Thursday it has obtained Level 2 certification for Automotive SPICE (ASPICE), an international standard for automotive software development, from certification body C&BIS.

ASPICE is an international standard created by the automotive industry to evaluate the software development capabilities and reliability of automotive electronics component manufacturers. With the rapid increase in electronic control units (ECUs) in vehicles, the standard requires thorough management throughout the entire development process to prevent software defects in components.

The certification reflects LG Display’s achievement in equipping its instrument cluster and center fascia displays for vehicles with proprietary diagnostic and control functions. The company demonstrated its advanced software quality and reliability control capabilities as a key partner in automotive electronics systems. As automotive displays evolve beyond simple information displays into platforms encompassing infotainment and vehicle control, the company is seen as having secured technological leadership spanning both hardware and software.

LG Display, which became the industry’s first to obtain the Automotive Cybersecurity Engineering International Standard (ISO SAE 21434) in December last year, has further raised its technology barriers by consecutively securing the ASPICE certification. The company plans to use this momentum to strengthen its competitiveness for new orders in the global automotive market, including North America, and to solidify strategic partnerships with customers.

“This certification recognizes that our automotive displays have not only hardware completeness but also high-quality software technology capabilities,” said Kwon Keuk-sang, head of LG Display’s Auto Business Group. “Based on our differentiated technological capabilities, we will strengthen our market leadership and move forward as a technology-centered company that proactively delivers customer value.”
