An explosion at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant has left five workers dead, one seriously injured, and one with minor injuries.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 1st, the explosion occurred at 10:59 a.m. at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant in Oesam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Five workers were killed, and the remaining two sustained serious and minor injuries, respectively.
The fire authorities issued Level 1 fire response at around 11:17 a.m. and brought the initial blaze under control within 50 minutes of the fire breaking out. They believe an unexplained explosion occurred on the first floor of the plant and plan to investigate the exact circumstances after completing fire suppression.
The Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant also suffered an explosion in May 2018, in which two people died at the scene and three others, who were being treated for severe burns, later died. In February 2019, the following year, an explosion and fire occurred in a propellant molding room at the Daejeon plant, killing three workers.
