An August ADR debut could open US investors to SK Hynix’s AI memory business, but officials say final size and timing remain undecided.

Seoul/Singapore, June 10 – SK Hynix (000660.KS) plans to place its ADRs in the United States as early as August, two sources familiar with the matter said. The company aims to capitalize on the heightened interest in AI-related stocks and broaden its investor base.

According to the sources, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could approve the ADR placement within the week beginning June 22.

Both sources declined to identify their counterparts due to confidentiality.

“SK Hynix plans to issue ADRs by 2026, but details, including size and timing, have not yet been determined.”

In a statement, the company said that the ADR placement is planned for 2026, but details, including scale and time frames, have not yet been determined. No comments from the SEC outside of business hours have been received.

In March, SK Hynix said it confidentially filed documents for a U.S. listing. According to the source, the size of the placement could reach up to $14 billion.

The company, the second-largest global memory-chip maker and one of Nvidia’s key suppliers, has become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom thanks to its dominance in high-bandwidth chips used in AI servers.

SK Hynix shares have risen about 240% this year, and since May its market capitalization has surpassed $1 trillion, making the company one of three Asian companies – after TSMC and Samsung Electronics – to reach that milestone.

According to the sources, the plan has received an “extremely positive” reception due to strong demand for AI and competitive positions in the memory market.

Market impact and future plans

If the August debut happens, it will be another well-known name on the crowded schedule of the second half on U.S. markets, where investors are watching for potential AI-related listings, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX with anticipated IPOs.

In the prospect, a listing in the United States could strengthen SK Hynix’s position in the global memory market and broaden financing for future projects.

Thus, this move could reinforce SK Hynix’s position on the global memory stage and attract new sources of funding for further development.
