The Korail Judo Team conducted a pro bono self-defense training program for more than 100 Korail station staff working at locations including Seoul Station and Yongsan Station, the team said Wednesday.

The training, which began Sunday at the practice facility at Seobinggo Station, focused on preparing for emergencies that may occur at stations. The program centered on practicing judo techniques applicable in real situations.

The station staff learned basic self-defense, applied arrest techniques, self-defense using tools, evasion techniques, and break-falls. These are practical skills that can protect the safety of both customers and employees.

Founded in 1948, the Korail Judo Team has continued its pro bono activities since 2012. It has taught self-defense not only to station staff and train crew but also to workers at related organizations such as the railroad police. Last year, the team won a bronze medal at the National Sports Festival, establishing itself as a corporate team representing the Daejeon region.

“I hope this provides some small help so that station staff who protect passengers’ safety late into the night can work with confidence,” said Kim Jong-sun, head coach of the Korail Judo Team.
