Hyundai Rotem (064350.KS) will debut its artificial intelligence (AI)-based advanced defense technology for the first time at the world’s largest defense exhibition.
Hyundai Rotem said Monday that it will participate in “Eurosatory 2026,” held in Paris, France, from June 15 to 19. Eurosatory is the world’s largest defense exhibition, with about 2,100 companies from roughly 70 countries participating this year.
Hyundai Rotem will form an integrated Hyundai Motor Group pavilion together with Hyundai Wia to conduct global sales activities. Under the theme “The Power Leading the Future of National Defense,” Hyundai Rotem plans to demonstrate its commitment to leading the future of global defense across products, technology, ecosystem, and partnerships.
In particular, this exhibition will mark the first public unveiling of the AI-based unmanned turret-type counter-drone (C-UAS) multilayered defense system. The unmanned turret-type counter-drone multilayered defense system is an AI-based advanced defense technology that Hyundai Rotem is developing in-house. Through AI detection and identification algorithms, it automatically analyzes various situational scenarios such as the type, distance, and altitude of threats like enemy drones, and can respond sequentially and continuously, delivering optimal defense performance to protect human lives.
The multilayered defense system combines a soft-kill method using radio jamming and a hard-kill system using physical interception, based on an unmanned turret platform. When a threat approaches, surveillance equipment such as radar and reconnaissance drones detects it in advance from a distance, and AI classifies the threat level in real time to carry out an initial neutralization using a jammer. In addition, customized responses are possible based on various mission equipment such as collision drones, unmanned turret fire, and active protection systems (APS), enabling an effective response to global counter-drone defense demand. Synergy with Hyundai Rotem’s ground weapons system lineup is also expected to grow.
The K2 tank, a global bestseller, will also expand its presence with an export-version concept model on display. By applying specifications required on the modern battlefield, such as a remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), active protection system, and drone jammer, it will offer a wide range of options for performance upgrades.
The company will also present its future vision for the manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) operating system. MUM-T is an operational concept in which manned combat systems and unmanned platforms link and collaborate in real time through an AI network, and it represents the core development direction of Hyundai Rotem’s ground forces.
As a MUM-T exhibit, the company will showcase the multipurpose unmanned vehicle “HR-Sherpa.” The HR-Sherpa can be equipped with various equipment depending on the mission and can operate unmanned through remote control or autonomous driving.
Hyundai Rotem plans to actively respond to the diverse requirements of customers by leading with HR-Sherpa series models equipped with various mission equipment such as surveillance and reconnaissance devices, drones, and anti-tank missiles. The HR-Sherpa is also expanding its series range into civilian sectors, including unmanned firefighting robots for fire suppression.
