Hanwha Aerospace, a South Korean entity operating in defense, aerospace, and industrial sectors, has formalized a teaming arrangement with Generation 5 Holding, based in the UAE. This collaboration targets the production and distribution of the K9 155mm self-propelled howitzer throughout Middle Eastern markets.

The K9, characterized as a transformative artillery platform, is a 155mm/52-caliber self-propelled howitzer capable of striking targets beyond 40 kilometers. According to the Korean firm’s announcement, ten nations spanning four continents currently deploy this system.

Regarding this strategic alliance with Generation 5 Holding, Hanwha Aerospace indicated it aligns with the group’s broader objective of reinforcing its footprint in the Middle East. The company is pursuing avenues such as local manufacturing, upkeep, and technological collaborations to reach regional clients.

Based in Changwon, Hanwha Aerospace maintains significant activities across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Its offerings cover land, sea, air, and space sectors, encompassing howitzer systems, armored vehicles, precision-guided munitions, aircraft engines, satellites, and space launch vehicles.

The firm noted that on-site production and full-lifecycle support aim to foster indigenous industrial capacity and deliver assistance nearer to the operational zones of the equipment.

The pact was executed by IL Sung, who oversees Middle East and North Africa operations for Hanwha Aerospace, alongside Dr. Khalifa Murad Alblooshi, Managing Director of Generation 5 Holding. This occurred during the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition, which wrapped up on June 19 in Paris.

IL Sung emphasized that the Middle East represents a key focus for Hanwha Aerospace, and forging robust ties with local enterprises is essential to expanding the company’s regional presence. He added that producing and servicing the K9 locally is intended to bolster partners’ defense autonomy and provide regional buyers with a capable artillery solution supported near its deployment sites.

Generation 5 Holding, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, functions as a defense and technology enterprise active in major defense fields such as aerospace, land systems, and naval systems. Per the agreement, the Emirati firm will facilitate local manufacturing and market entry for the K9.

Dr. Alblooshi stated that the collaboration with Hanwha Aerospace underscores the Emirati organization’s dedication to advancing sophisticated industrial capabilities via robust alliances and technology exchange, thereby boosting product competitiveness and nurturing the national defense industry. He remarked that merging manufacturing strengths and integrated industrial resources positions the group to effectively create, produce, and supply high-performance howitzer systems to clients, consistent with its approach to transferring and embedding advanced defense production technologies. He also conveyed optimism about cultivating a fruitful partnership with Hanwha Aerospace that furthers mutual objectives and fulfills user demands, both presently and in the future, adhering to premier global benchmarks.
