Coupang Eats Service (CES) said Monday it will strengthen heat wave measures and expand on-the-ground support to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure safe driving for its delivery partners, working with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, local governments, and other related agencies.
CES provides tailored support for delivery partners based on the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s “Five Basic Rules for Heat Wave Safety,” which consist of water, cooling, rest, cooling gear, and 119 emergency reporting.
The company is also running a heat wave preparedness sharing campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Korea Worker’s Compensation Mutual Aid Association, and local governments. The campaign began in Bucheon on the 17th and will continue for two months across 10 regions nationwide through August. Delivery partners who visit the sites are provided with large tumblers, coffee and snack trucks, bottled water and sports drinks, and summer supplies. Iced coffee vouchers will also be distributed next month.
At mobile worker shelters in more than 50 local governments nationwide, supplies for heat wave preparedness—including bottled water, sports drinks, glucose candy, cool scarves, and cool sleeves—are kept on hand at all times so that any delivery partner can use them freely.
The company has also drawn attention for operating more than 140 repair centers nationwide as “delivery partner cooling shelters” in cooperation with the Korea Motorcycle Repair Association. Each center is equipped with rest areas featuring air conditioning, refrigerators, and water purifiers so they can be used conveniently near delivery routes. The shelters are located in major regions across the country, including the greater Seoul area, Chungcheong, Honam, Yeongnam, Gangwon, and Jeju, improving accessibility.
CES has also strengthened safety guidance based on weather conditions. Through its delivery partner app, the company provides real-time guidance on how to respond to weather conditions, including not only heat waves but also heavy rain and typhoons.
“In a heat wave situation, the most important thing is to ensure that basic safety rules are actually followed in the field,” a CES official said. “We will continue to cooperate with relevant agencies and provide the support needed so that delivery partners can drive safely.”
