Srinagar, Jun 21 (KNS): A delegation of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), led by its chairman Manzoor Wangnoo on Sunday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan and submitted memorandums seeking expeditious restoration of the historic Gilsar and Khushalsar lakes as well as strengthening of the anti-drug campaign in the Union Territory.
The delegation, which included core members Dr. Farooq Peer and Peerzada Fayaz Ahmad, apprised the Lt Governor about the progress of ‘Mission Ehsaas’—a lake conservation initiative launched by him on World Environment Day last year and subsequently appreciated by the Prime Minister. The delegation, however, expressed concern over the slowing pace of restoration works at the twin urban lakes and sought the Lt Governor’s intervention for accelerating the conservation process.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
On the issue of drug abuse, the delegation complimented LG Sinha for spearheading the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and submitted proposals for community-based outreach programmes. The suggestions included organising a large-scale awareness rally on Dal and Nigeen lakes involving youth and educational institutions to reinforce the message of a drug-free Kashmir.
The Lt Governor assured the delegation of priority action on the issues and suggestions put forth, an official spokesperson said. Wangnoo stated that NLCO remains committed to supporting the administration in environmental protection, youth engagement, and public awareness initiatives. (KNS)
