Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) Group has reorganized its Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) division while recruiting talent from Tesla and Nvidia.
According to industry sources Wednesday, Yoo Ji-han, executive vice president and head of the autonomous driving development center, will lead the newly established SDV Platform unit within the AVP division. Yoo will oversee overall development of electrical and electronic architecture and integrated controller-based platforms. Through this, he plans to strengthen the connection between vehicle architecture and the SDV platform and accelerate the establishment of an integrated development system.
Ahn Hyung-ki, executive vice president and head of the electronics development center, will lead the Human Machine Interface (HMI) unit, advancing an integrated HMI development system spanning product and customer experience planning, software implementation, and service business operations.
Hyundai Motor Group recruited Kim Dong-wook, a former Tesla executive, as head of the SDV Platform Development Center as an executive vice president. He is an expert in vehicle wireless communications who oversaw everything from wireless communication hardware design to certification and mass production at Apple and Tesla. Having overseen the development of wireless communication systems for all Tesla passenger car models, he will be responsible for advancing vehicle architecture and designing and developing wireless communication systems.
Jeremy Ma, an executive vice president who handled autonomous driving work at Nvidia, Apple, and Toyota, has been appointed head of the Silicon Valley (SV) office, a newly established organization within the AVP division. Ma will be responsible for autonomous driving software design and development, and will concurrently serve as head of 42dot’s SV office, leading collaboration between the two organizations.
