Overview
Hyundai has completely redesigned its compact Elantra sedan for 2027, and its styling is a radical departure from the previous generation. The new styling is both edgy and futuristic, with bulging fenders, slim LED lighting elements, and a wide C-pillar that separates a small triangular rear quarter window from the rest of the Elantra’s greenhouse.
Engine choices are likely to remain the same as before: A 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower, and a 139-hp hybrid setup. Inside, we see design influences from other Hyundais, including the mid-size Palisade SUV. A large infotainment touchscreen on the dash is said to run Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment software, too.

We expect the new Elantra to come with the same variety of powertrains as the previous generation car, which would include an unexciting 147-hp naturally aspirated four-cylinder, a peppier 201-hp turbo four, and a fuel-sipping 139-hp hybrid. It’s likely that Hyundai will also reboot the 286-hp Elantra N, but we cover that model separately.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row: A fresh design awaits you inside the 2027 Elantra. The dashboard has been worked into a sort of homage to the Palisade SUV’s, with rounded edges and an inset portion with ambient lighting. A wide center console appears to offer two large cupholders and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The driver gets a chunky, flat-bottomed steering wheel and faces a slim gauge display that’s located near the Elantra’s windshield.
Second Row: The 2027 Elantra is larger than the previous generation, with some of that growth benefiting rear seat passenger space. Hyundai hasn’t released official specs yet, but when we get them, we will update this story with details.
Cargo Capacity: We aren’t sure about the new Elantra’s cargo capacity yet, but when we get a chance, we’ll stuff the trunk full of carry-on suitcases and update this story with test results.

A large, rectangular infotainment display is posted to the center of the Elantra’s dashboard. The screen varies in size depending on trim, from a 12.9-inch unit as standard to an optional 14.6-incher. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are expected to be standard. The infotainment software is also new for 2027. It’s the first application of Hyundai’s Pleos software in the U.S. market, and it features an AI chatbot named Gleo.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Elantra owners can rest easy with Hyundai’s legendary 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. They also receive three years of scheduled service at no cost, which is a nice perk.
