LG Energy Solution (373220.KS) has posted ESG achievements including a significant increase in the recycling rate of a solvent used in its cathode manufacturing process.

The company said Tuesday it had published the “LG Energy Solution ESG Report 2025,” which contains its actual ESG performance over the past year. The report is the company’s sixth ESG report.

In the environmental area, the company recorded the achievement of expanding a new NMP solvent recycling technology, which was developed and verified at its Nanjing subsidiary in China, to its global operations. NMP is an essential solution used in the cathode manufacturing process to bind materials together. As the number of sites applying the recycling technology increased, the NMP recycling rate rose to 97% from the previous level of around 80%.

In the area of governance and transparent management, the independence of the board and its internal control functions were strengthened. Following a board resolution this year, LG Energy Solution appointed outside director Park Jin-kyu as chair of the board. This marks the first time the company has appointed an outside director as board chair. In addition, four of the company’s seven directors—a majority—are outside directors, enhancing the transparency of its governance structure.

LG Energy Solution also strengthened its compliance system to preemptively control operational risks that may arise during the expansion of its global production bases. In particular, the company comprehensively overhauled its supplier management process for global construction sites, including overseas joint ventures, and established a standing response system that monitors workforce and compliance risks in real time, securing stability in its global business operations.

“As the application of batteries expands beyond electric vehicles into various industries such as energy, robotics and aviation, we will strengthen our business competitiveness and sustainability based on ESG,” said Kim Dong-myung, CEO of LG Energy Solution.
