KOSCOM, which operates the IT infrastructure for South Korea’s securities firms, and LG AI Research are joining forces to launch an artificial intelligence prediction and analysis service specifically designed for the South Korean stock market. Unlike conventional AI tools that merely forecast whether stock prices will rise or fall, this service champions “explainable AI” by providing the reasoning behind its predictions in commentary form.
LG AI Research and KOSCOM signed a “Strategic Business Agreement for AI-Based Korean Financial Data Analysis Services” on July 7 at KOSCOM’s headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. Executives from both sides attended the ceremony, including KOSCOM President Yoon Chang-hyun, Executive Director Lee Chang-jin, LG AI Research Co-Director Lim Woo-hyung, and Business Development Division Head Lee Hwa-young.
Through this collaboration, LG AI Research will integrate KOSCOM’s domestic equity trading data, corporate disclosures, and macroeconomic indicators into its finance-specialized AI agent, “EXAONE BI” (EXAONE Business Intelligence). EXAONE BI is a system where multiple AI agents collaborate to perform data analysis, reasoning, prediction, and explanation generation. The platform has previously built a track record in areas such as lithium price forecasting and demand prediction.
The core data product the two entities will unveil is “AEFS” (AI-Powered Equity Forecast Score). AEFS analyzes roughly 8,000 stocks listed on South Korean and U.S. exchanges daily, predicting each stock’s four-week price trajectory as a score and providing the rationale behind its assessment through analyst-grade commentary. The defining differentiator of this service is its design: it can answer the “why” behind every conclusion the AI reaches.
“In the stock market, the ability to explain why an AI arrived at a particular result is just as important as prediction accuracy,” said Lim Woo-hyung, Co-Director of LG AI Research. “We aim to provide trustworthy information to both domestic and international institutional and retail investors, and to contribute to AI service innovation in the financial sector.”
Prior to entering the domestic market, LG AI Research validated a similar service on the global stage. The research institute previously partnered with the UK’s London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) to launch a service that uses AI to predict and analyze U.S.-listed stocks for global markets. The collaboration with KOSCOM represents an expansion of that technology, tailored to the South Korean market environment. The company explained that it optimized EXAONE BI’s time-series forecasting and data analysis capabilities using KOSCOM’s Korea-specific datasets.
The two entities plan to serve both domestic and international investors by simultaneously leveraging KOSCOM’s local client base and LSEG’s global distribution channels. “Starting with this service, we will introduce a variety of products and lead the AI transformation of financial markets,” said KOSCOM President Yoon Chang-hyun.
Meanwhile, LG AI Research and KOSCOM intend to manage service quality by continuously evaluating the appropriateness of score calculation rationales and the fidelity of commentary information, aiming to minimize the “hallucination” issues that can arise during AI analysis. With South Korea’s stock market on an upward trajectory and financial market volatility expanding, demand for reliable, data-driven predictive insights is expected to grow further.
