LG showcased a wide array of industrial innovation cases powered by its proprietary AI model, ‘Exaone,’ at ICML 2026, the world’s most prestigious academic conference in the machine learning and artificial intelligence sector. The AI is delivering results beyond the laboratory and across industrial sites, having discovered a new hair loss management material in a single day, identified a next-generation cooling solution for data centers, and even performed financial market analysis.
LG AI Research announced on the 8th that it is participating in the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) 2026, held at COEX in Seoul from the 6th to the 11th, to present its Exaone-based AI technologies and industrial application outcomes. ICML is one of the world’s top three AI conferences, offering a view into the latest research trends in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and is being held in South Korea for the first time this year.
The field most emphasized by LG AI Research at this event was new materials discovery. The institute presented a live demonstration of ‘Exaone Discovery,’ its AI platform for discovering new materials, and exhibited physical samples of ‘Rhamsydil,’ a new hair loss management material found by the AI, and an ‘immersion cooling fluid material’ for next-generation AI data centers.
Exaone Discovery is a platform applying AI scientist technology to support new materials and drug research. The AI autonomously recognizes molecular structures from literature and designs candidate substances with desired performance characteristics. LG AI Research completed patent registration for this overall R&D process earlier this year, establishing a technological barrier.
The representative case, Rhamsydil, is a new hair loss management material jointly discovered by LG Household & Health Care and LG AI Research. It is a substance the AI found in just one day from over 420,000 candidate materials, characterized by its hair loss prevention effects without steroid-derived ingredients. LG presented this achievement at the World Congress for Hair Research and is currently preparing for product commercialization.
The immersion cooling fluid material co-developed with GS Caltex was also unveiled. As a next-generation cooling solution to address heat generation issues in AI data centers, both companies plan to expand the scope of their new materials discovery cooperation going forward.
In the financial sector, the finance-specialized AI agent ‘Exaone BI (EXAONE Business Intelligence)’ was introduced. Exaone BI is a service that analyzes approximately 8,000 stocks listed on the South Korean and U.S. stock markets daily, providing prediction scores and analyst-level commentary. Following the launch of a U.S. stock prediction AI service with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) earlier this year, LG AI Research recently signed a contract with Koscom to enter the domestic South Korean stock prediction AI service business.
In the data field, ‘Exaone Data Foundry’ was unveiled. This platform is a technology that generates high-quality data using AI and automatically builds AI models specialized for professional fields. According to LG AI Research, it has achieved at least a 1,000-fold increase in data productivity and an average quality improvement of over 20%. A pilot project with South Korea’s National Pension Service implemented a system that automatically constructs over 10,000 pieces of specialized data per day.
Research achievements were also disclosed. LG AI Research presented a total of 14 papers at ICML 2026. Notably, its new material generative AI technology ranked second globally in the comprehensive ranking of ‘LeMat-GenBench,’ a global benchmark. This evaluation is a performance indicator for new material development that comprehensively verifies the stability of AI-generated crystal structures, their distinctiveness from existing materials, and the diversity of proposed candidate substances.
Since its launch in December 2020, LG AI Research has published a total of 363 papers at top global AI conferences. It has also filed a total of 838 patents, including 371 in South Korea, 243 overseas, and 224 international (PCT) applications. The institute explained that it is strengthening its technology commercialization capabilities by ensuring research outcomes do not remain confined to papers but are applied to actual industrial sites.
Lim Woo-hyung, Co-Director of LG AI Research, stated, “Exaone is no longer a lab-based AI but an expert AI that finds answers in the field,” adding, “We will seize global AI leadership with a first-mover strategy aimed at solving industrial challenges.”
Meanwhile, LG is also accelerating its efforts to secure global AI talent. On the 7th, LG AI Research invited around 60 master’s and doctoral-level AI talents attending ICML 2026 to an ‘LG AI Day’ networking event. At the event, key researchers including Co-Directors Lee Hong-rak and Lim Woo-hyung shared LG’s AI technology development status and talent cultivation plans. Lee Hong-rak, Co-Director of LG AI Research, said, “AI leadership comes from the talent that creates the best technology,” and added, “We will leap forward as a global top-tier research hub by building a system that can provide researchers with the best experimental environment, data, and mentoring support.”
