The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) is stepping up support for Korean companies’ entry into the US market through “K-DoorKnock.”
AMCHAM said on the 13th that it has established K-DoorKnock and will run the program for the first time in Washington DC from the 13th to the 16th, local time.
K-DoorKnock is a program that allows Korean companies expanding their business and investment in the United States to meet with local policymakers and key figures to discuss policy and industry issues and broaden cooperation opportunities.
AMCHAM explained that it created K-DoorKnock to expand the scope of “Washington DoorKnock,” its flagship government relations program, to include Korean companies. Washington DoorKnock is AMCHAM’s annual US outreach program. Each year, it has met with key figures from the US government, Congress, major think tanks and business circles to discuss Korea-US economic issues and convey the voices of companies, serving as a key cooperation platform linking the two countries’ governments and industries. This year, K-DoorKnock will also be run as part of Washington DoorKnock.
This year’s delegation includes AMCHAM Chairman James Kim, along with K-DoorKnock participants Dunamu, Hangang Asset Management, the US subsidiary of Korea Sanupyanghang, Hyundai Motor Group, LG (003550) Group and Solum (248070). Executives of AMCHAM member companies that have participated in previous Washington DoorKnock events, including Bayer, Corning, Kim & Chang, Novelis and Pfizer, will also join.
During the visit, the delegation will meet with key US administration officials from the White House, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), the Department of Commerce, the Department of State and the National Security Council (NSC). The delegation also plans to meet with members of the Korea Caucus and bipartisan US senators and representatives from major standing committees, the US Chamber of Commerce, and major think tank and policy experts to discuss ways to expand Korea-US investment, regulatory cooperation, innovation and stronger economic cooperation.
“Korea-US economic cooperation is now rapidly evolving beyond a trade-centered relationship toward two-way investment, innovation, advanced technology and supply chain cooperation,” Chairman Kim said. “K-DoorKnock will be a starting point demonstrating AMCHAM’s new role of supporting not only US companies’ investment in Korea but also Korean companies’ business expansion in the United States, in step with these changes.”
He added, “Close communication between government and business is more important than anything else in expanding new investment and cooperation opportunities. AMCHAM will continue to play an active role as a bridge connecting the two countries’ governments and industries, conveying the voices of companies and expanding practical cooperation and investment opportunities.”
Meanwhile, this year’s Washington DoorKnock is being held as part of AMCHAM’s “Freedom 250” campaign commemorating the 250th anniversary of US independence.
