Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) is considering a listing on the US stock market through the issuance of American depositary receipts (ADRs), according to a foreign media report.

Bloomberg reported on the 14th, citing multiple sources, that Samsung Electronics recently held preliminary discussions with investment banks. However, a decision to pursue the listing has not been finalized, and Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning to make a final decision after monitoring the recent increased volatility in memory chip prices.

Sources told Bloomberg that if a US listing is pursued, the company’s broad business portfolio and recurring labor-management disputes could become variables in the process of designing the ADR issuance structure.

Samsung Electronics declined to comment officially. Bloomberg added that “the discussions are still at a very early stage and may not lead to an actual listing.”

Bloomberg reported that Samsung Electronics had also reviewed the possibility of issuing ADRs in the past but ultimately did not proceed. However, it explained that the successful US listing of SK hynix (000660.KS) has emerged as the backdrop for the review.

SK hynix raised 26.5 billion dollars (about 39 trillion won) through its US stock market listing, achieving the largest scale ever among foreign companies listed in the US. This success was assessed as an example demonstrating the market’s high enthusiasm toward companies benefiting from AI infrastructure development. Samsung Electronics, along with SK hynix, is considered a key beneficiary of the AI memory market.
